Mission: Sell Your House! Part 8

Mission:  The Master Suite

The idea of a master suite has only been popularized for mainstream building since the early 1990’s.  If your house was built before then, chances are, it doesn’t have a master suite, at least by today’s standards.  By adding this feature, you could add a great deal of value to your home and it is almost guaranteed to drive up traffic of potential buyers.  Many buyers will not even look at a home that does not have a private master suite (bathroom and bedroom combined with private entry).  While earlier we discussed the bathroom trends, here are a few tips for the bedroom if yours is in need of a facelift!

Space and Size– no one wants to feel cramped in the master suite.  Make the space as large as possible.  (When staging the home put a smaller full size bed to make it look even bigger!).

Closet space.  As big as possible!   Big trends are ‘his and hers’.  Walk-ins are almost a must, but if this isn’t possible creating as much non distracting closet space is best.

Not just for sleeping space!  Master bedrooms have become the escape pod for the busy lives led by many.  Creating a small sitting area, fireplace, or entertainment center can attract more buyers to your home.

Calm, cool, collective.  Don’t make the master bedroom the color splash central, rather accent with unique and interesting furniture or art pieces.
